Problems Identified In Device Manager - Other Devices

I have just did a clean reinstall of Windows 7. Upon installation, I took all Window's updates, and applied as many current drivers as I could muster up for installed hardware.

I have an ASUS P8Z77-V motherboard, and downloaded from their site all the current drivers I felt were appropriate.

In my device manager, I have two entries in "Other Devices" that indicate having problems.

- Network Controller
- Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller

I have no idea, and I have tried searching to no avail, to get rid of these.

Windows troubleshooting has no suggestions and is apparently unable to find any drivers.

I have internet access, so I don't appear to be affected by the network controller problem, and I have full USB (2 and 3) control, so don't understand the USB controller problem either.

Any suggestions? Advice? Direction? Maybe I didn't install the correct ASUS drivers. Perhaps someone with familiarity with the ASUS support site can share which drivers I should download ... there are a lot and I'm not sure which ones are relevant.

Further ... I am noticing that each time Windows is started, I am asked "Do you want to run this file?" for a file called iusb3mon.exe from intel. Maybe this is part and parcel of the problem, or it may be just an annoyance. Help me get rid of this??

That could be your problem. You said you downloaded the drivers you felt were appropriate. So it does sound like you missed a few few.. or there were drivers needed not shown or available on the website. Where is the Drivers CD that came with your motherboard? I'm not sure about Asus motherboards.. but when I insert my Gigabyte CD it will scan first and tell me which drivers aren't installed and show the ones that I need to have installed. Doesn't that particular motherboard have a wireless network adapter built in?

usually you could google the hardware id to found out what driver is needed for that particular device.
go to your device manager, right click on the unknown device then go the properties. on the properties there'll be a detail tab. look for hardaware ID and google the value.
usually it has multiple line like:
ACPI\ATK0110
*ATK0110
in this case googling ATK0110 reveals that it's an asus acpi driver that's needed

Thanks all for your valuable information! I wish I could have selected all as being the best solution as each one had unique information!

OK Go ... you introduced me to a new feature. I did not know I could get that kind of information from Device Manager. It helped me identify what the hardware was in particular that I couldn't identify. From there, I could search for the appropriate drivers. When I was unable to find a suitable download ....

SBMfromLA ... I did just that ... went to my Mobo disk and reinstalled everything that would let me. Most drivers on the disk got flagged for being older than the ones installed, so those weren't the culprits. One driver not at the ASUS support was indeed for a WiFi driver (which I didn't think I had). Once installed it took care of the Network Controller issue.

The USB controller, turned out to be a VIA controller of a card that had been installed a looong time ago that I had forgotten about.

All is well now folks! Thanks!!

Asus does not support wireless and LAN drivers installed and enabled at the same time on their desktops. I can't see any logic in wireless on the desktop but it was convenient having WiFi when M6F build was on the test bench. When I connected the LAN, no workie, called tech support.

1st call they asked if I was using the latest BIOS (which came out 2 days before) and said they won't provide support cause there's no guarantee that the latest driver works on older BIOSs. As the driver was like 4months old, and the BIOS 2 days old, I asked what would have been his response if I called 3 days ago .... no answer.

2nd call I advised that I now had latest BIOS and it still didn't work.... there new answer was they don't support LAN and WFi in use at same time. I said works fine on my laptop .... answer was "laptops are designed to work that way, desktops are not." Was obvious BS, but since I don't carry around my 70 pound build, I really don't care about the WiFi.... disabling it, did allow the LAN to function.
