Ive got a recently new machine (AMD of course), but im feeling a lack of power now the new P4 chip is available.

I decided it would be a good idea to overclock, plenty of people do it with AMD chips, and to my astonishment my motherboard is supposedly "GOOD" at this overclocking lark. The problems came when attempting to go higer than 50Mhz over the standard clock of the chip.

Ive done the background reading, "the pencil trick" was useful, but no matter what i do i cant get the machine above 950 🙁

The machine is as follows:

ASUS A7V133 Motherboard (with raid)
AMD Athlon 900 CPU
128MB RAM (PC 100)
GEFORCE MX VIDEO CARD
Quantum Fireball 15Gb HDD (ATA66)

I also have ample cooling, ThermalTake Super ORB and many case fans!

Has anybody eles had similar problems, or has anyone got a solution for me?

Thanks

I bought a Asus A7V133 and a Athlon T-Bird 800 to overclock it to 1000 Mhz like described in the HowTo. The L1-bridges on the CPU were still open, so i closed them. I installed everything and system ran smooth with 800 Mhz.

To reach the 1000 Mhz i increased the multiplier in 0.5 steps. Everything went fine till 1000 Mhz - 950 Mhz worked without probs. When i arrived at 1000 Mhz the system booted as usual ( i got WinME btw. ) and when Windows was finished loading following message appeared:
"Windows encountered an error accessing the registry. Windows will repair the registry and restart the computer".
When i clicked on OK, Windows reinstalled the drivers for the motherboard but then again the same message appeared. When i closed the task of the Registryscan, i could work as usual.
2nd Problem:
I cant modify the core-voltage. When i set it to 1.8V or 1.85V the system hangs up and the motherboard sets the voltage back to default.

Anyone got clues?

Thanks in advance

I tried windows ME, and got the exact same problem! Also, the multiplier problem made it impossible for me to get past the ATA100 BIOS loader?

I Then went to 98SE for obvios reasons of annoying registry errors, adn i achieve better (but still poor results) i can go to 988 (104x9.5) but still there seems to be a problem in getting that elusive 1 gig!
