I have an Acer E1-571 that was stuck in an Automatic Repair Loop so on my PC, I created a Windows 8.1 DVD using Windows Media Creation Tool and then burned using WinISO. On the Acer, I changed the boot order on the to read from the DVD, and ended up with a black screen after the Acer logo.
I decided to see what happened if I changed the settings from UEFI to BIOS Legacy and the only thing that was different was that a blue Windows logo appeared after the Acer one, but then went to a black screen again.
I managed to get hold of a UBS flash drive so used Rufus to transfer the ISO using this tutorial http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/15458-uefi-bootable-usb-flash-drive-create-windows.html (although the latest version of Rufus - 2.7 - doesn't seem to have all the options, specifically "Standard Windows Installation"). However, I made all the other options the same.
The BIOS screen picked up the name of the UBS flash drive so made that have boot priority 1 and I removed the previous DVD I'd tried. I also changed back from Legacy BIOS to UEFI.
I've tried booting twice from the USB and exactly the same issue - Acer logo, followed by black screen.
The last thing I've tried is flashing the BIOS (this tutorial: http://www.logisticsct.com/blog/acer-black-screen-no-post/) - I downloaded the BIOS from the Acer website and formatted drive to FAT32, plugged USB in and held down FN and ESCAPE at same time but after about 15 seconds, the whole thing popped and it turned off! I prob didn't do this tutorial right as he doesn't give specifics for which options to use in Rufus.
So... I tried plugging the USB drive into a different port and got a DOS screen (I'd used FreeDos as the Bootable Disc Image option in Rufus) so I followed this tutorial https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WJ6yqMLcW2E as much as was possible consider he's using a different Acer. I didn't get the same BIOS screen as he did but after I typed the commands into the DOS prompt, it said it was changing the BIOS - all appeared fine, the progress went up to 100% and then in restarted on its own...and lo and behold, I'm right back to square one - same Acer logo and black screen.
I turned off, removed USB and then tried again - same thing. I'm at my wits end!!
Can anyone help? I'm pretty clueless when it comes to all this stuff but managed to get to this point through reading other users' issues! Thanks
