[SOLVED] Problems since installing Chrome OS on my old laptop (Toshiba Satellite c650) ?

I have an old Toshiba Satellite C650. The hdd had died, so I got a new SSD for it. I also chose to install Chrome OS rather than windows. The computer mostly runs fine, but from time to time, videos (youtube, etc...) turn green or the screen will go black completely, requiring a restart.

I am not sure if this is an issue related to the motherboard, gpu or if it's linked to the Chrome OS install. I'm not really knowledgeable when it comes to fixing laptops/computers, so any help here is appreciated.

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

It's due to the fact that the OS you're running is not supported by the laptop, officially. Ideally you should be on Windows 7. If you have the license key to the OS, you can use it to upgrade to Windows 10. Be sure to download any and/or all drivers for the laptop meant for installation under Windows 7's operating environment and install them in compatibility mode in Windows 10, i.e, Right click installer>Properties>Compatibility Tab>Windows 7(from drop down menu).

See if that helps.

You should also consider disassembling the laptop to give it a good maintenance run...dust and debris can and will impeded heat vented by the laptop's cooler.
