A few years ago when I built my first PC I had someone far more knowledgeable than myself configure Windows 10 and connect my single monitor (LG 22MP58VQ) to a Gigabyte B150M-DS3H motherboard. I can't remember the reason as he explained at the time, but he connected using both HDMI and D-Sub. Through the monitor I could toggle between HDMI and D-Sub, but every program opened in HDMI. I didn't understand the connection and Windows configuration, but it worked; 'if it ain't broke....'

All of my programs are opening in HDMI, except for some unknown reason, Google Chrome. In order to view GC I need to switch the monitor's input switch to D-Sub. I'm assuming this is a simple fix, but online searching for a solution leaves me confused with all the different suggestions so I thought I'd ask here for some assistance to help me get things back to how they were.

What I've done so far:

  • Disconnected all cables from the monitor > PC (at both ends) as well as disconnecting the power cable. Reconnected > turned on PC > same problem.
  • Ran complete scan of PC using Bitdefender Anti-Virus.

Solution
D-Sub = VGA

Why is monitor attached to both? wonder what the reasoning is.

wonder if uninstalling intel igpu drivers and reinstalling again would fix it. try running this in safe mode, remove the intel drivers and then run windows update on restart and it will find drivers. then see if you have same problem.

could also try reinstalling chrome after the changes.

Thank you very much, Colif. Your suggestion to uninstall and then reinstall the most recent driver took care of my problem.

One of these days when I have a bit more time I'm going to investigate why my monitor is connected with both cables instead of just HDMI.
