This motherboard is about 3 years old and Gigabyte says the warrenty was
only good for 1 year. With any hard disk and with any video card and any
set of memory from 128M to 512M while loading Windows (Win98, Win2000 Pro,
or WinXP Pro) the system just locks up when updating system settings and
the mouse freezes on the screen. Pushing reset or restarting gets the same
results -- any ideas? Bios is set to Load Fail-Safe Defaults...

Thanks,

Pat

I forgot to mention that in all cases the system will come up fine in Safe
Mode... I have also tried three different P!!!
processors and the same happens with all of them...

HELP..

Thanks,

Pat

I assume it was working ok before? Have you tried another CPU?

At the age of the board there could be a serious problem since boards from that
time had the dreaded defective capacitor problem. Examine all capacitors on the
board for signs of bulging and leakage. Also, you might check out the power
supply.

I've tried 2 or 3 different disk drives and I even removed the VIA hard disk
controller from the BIOS and installed a RAID controller to see if that made
any difference and no such luck... Any other ideas?

Thanks,

Pat

Since it runs in SAFE MODE you have a software problem. Reload 98 over it
self,
remove PCI cards and drivers one at a time, run SFC, look at the Device
Manager for warnings, etc.
