Problems with loading on startup.

Hi all.

Just to let you know, I am new to this pc building business and have built a simple pc. The problem is, as I start to load it up on start up I get the following message:

Loading Grub

Error 17

Then nothing else happens. I have checked my connections and all seems well. The system is running on Linux currently if that assists.
Can anyone please help?????

Not particularly, The hard drive is from a friend and it was loaded with Linux when I got it. I am not sure whether my windows XP disk will boot up on start up tho. I suppose there is one way of finding out!!

We will know in 39 minutes. Formatted the HDD and windows is now installing (I hope) Will let you know. Many thanks for your assistance... Really like this forum.
