Hello everyone. This will be a bit of a longer thread, since it's kind of hard to explain, but please take your time to read everything.
I bought a new PC about 2.5 months ago, I assembled everything myself, and everything has been working fine until about 2 weeks ago. 2 weeks ago I was playing a game, PUBG, when suddenly my monitor turned off, and fans went full speed(not sure which fans though), and after 5 seconds my PC shut down. I was like, what the hell is this now. So, what I thought could be the problem is due to power delivery to the PC, not due to the power supply, though. I thought it was because my PC was connected to the same circuit as an electric water pump. Doesn't matter what the water pump is for, but what I want to say is that every time the pump turned on, I heard crackling noise in my headset, and monitor turned off for a few seconds, then turned back on. This kept going until the pump turned off(The pump usually worked for around 10-20 seconds, and then turned off. During the 10-20 seconds I experienced the crackling and monitor black screens. Crackling and random monitor black screens were occuring, but after some time, suddenly the monitor turned off and PC fans went full blast. 5 seconds later the PC shut down.I thought the pump was using too much electricity from the circuit, so the PC couldn't work. I was like, I have to move my PC to my room, it has to be due to the pump. So, what I did to counter this, is I moved my PC to my room, and now it's connected to a different circuit, on the other side of the house. Everything worked fine, until yesterday. Yesterday, the problem occured again. While gaming, my monitor suddenly turned off. But it was different this time! Only the monitor turned off, like it has lost signal from the graphics card. The PC did not shut down. The PC worked, but I couldn't see anything. If I pressed keys randomly on my keyboard, I could hear the windows 10 "cling-bling" kind of sound. During the time it happened, I was also on Discord, talking to people, I could still talk to them, and use toggle microphone mute by pressing a mouse key. As you can tell, it was all working except the monitor. After that I did a rollback to an older graphics driver from about 3 months ago, but the problem still persisted. It even started occuring at different times. A few times, I couldn't boot up Windows, It showed the windows logo, and then black screen, fans full blast. Happened a few times, then I managed to get into windows. A couple of times it happened straight after the game started loading. A couple of times I played a game for 10-20 minutes and then it happened. I was doing some research, and read a post saying that I could try taking one RAM stick out, well I take it out, and it all works now. But I don't think it was due to the RAM. It's kind of hard to explain, but I live in a very small village, around 10km from the power distribution substation, and sometimes, some electrical devices will work very weakly or will not work at all, possibly due to low power delivery.(happens rarely and most frequently during weekends, especially on Sunday). And it happens to different people around the village, their TVs would sometimes just turn off, same with PCs. I even remember my old PC would sometimes turn off during Sunday, and later it would work normally.
Now, what I want to know is, did all of this happen because of the low power in our village or what? The power was low, and plus due to the pump being connected to the same circuit. Maybe the PC shouldn't be connected to the same circuit with such devices. Because remember, when my PC first shut down, I moved it to my room, it worked for 2 weeks and then again. Yesterday it happened, but today everything is fine.(Though I'm using one stick of RAM less, but I will add it back to see if it will work.).
TL;DR
Bought a new PC -> Assembled it myself -> Worked normally for 2 months -> I've experienced headphone crackling and monitor black screens for a few seconds, possibly due to the electrical water pump which drains a lot of electricity, and also possibly due to terrible power distribution where I live -> PC randomly shut down and fans went full blast -> Moved my PC to my room -> Everything worked fine for 2 weeks -> Similar problem yesterday -> Monitor had a black screen, but PC worked and I could still hear windows sounds -> Took 1 stick of RAM out -> Everything works fine, but I'm not sure if that's what fixed the problem.
My PC specs:
CPU: Intel Core i5 8600K (not overclocked)
GPU: Gainward Nvidia GTX 1060 6GB (not overclocked)
RAM: 2x8GB 3000MHz (Using Intel XMP profile) , one 1x8GB stick is out now. I'm using a single one, but will put the other one back in if everything works fine.
PSU: Seasonic M12II 620W Bronze Fully modular
Motherboard: Asrock Z370 Killer SLI
HDD: Western Digital Blue 1TB
CPU cooler: Be Quiet! Pure Rock
Case: Fractal Design Focus G
OS: Windows 10 Pro 64-bit
Things that I did to help resolve the problem:
- Took one stick of RAM out(now working with 1x8GB, 3000MHz)
- Checked all temperatures, both on idle and during gaming, all temperatures seemed okay
- Checked the motherboard for bad capacitors, didn't find anything weird, all seems healthy
- Checked other components, all looked healthy
- Checked if all connectors are plugged in correctly
- Did a GPU driver rollback to an older driver from 3-4 months ago(driver version: 388.13, october 30th 2017)
Things that I might do additionaly:
- Reinstall windows
- Get a UPS(friend suggested me to get an UPS)
NOTE: Everything worked fine today, I was playing PUBG for hours, and I'm writing this over my PC, but I have a feeling that it might happen again.
Please take your time to read everything, and hopefully someone knows what's the exact problem.
I live in Croatia, btw.
I would like to thank everyone that helps, or tries to help, in advance.
Sorry for bad english, it's not my native language.
