Hello all,

I am having problems trying to get two Western Digital 74 GB Raptors in RAID
0 to work with the Asus P5AD2-E Premium board. The problem I have is that
the second drive tends to fall off the array. This has happened three times
now and each time, I have to reseat the SATA cable before the ICH6R RAID
controller will see it again so that I can add it back into the array again.
I am using the V4.7.0.6815 Intel® Application Accelerator off the Intel
website rather than the v4.5 off the Asus CD. I have also updated the BIOS
to 1004 from 1002. I had the Raptors connected to SATA1 and SATA2 initially
on the board, but have since moved SATA2 to SATA3 so now I am using SATA1
and SATA3. This did not make any difference. I was going to move the Raptors
to the Sil3114R RAID controller instead of the Intel ICH6R but I read
another poster who said he had read about drives falling off that controller
as well. The client who bought this system is sight impaired so it is 100%
imperative that this system is 100% stable. I have e-mailed Western Digital
and will be e-mailing Asus as well. I have not heard back from Western
Digital. Thanks in advance for any advice you can give me.

T.

I am running 2 Raptors in RAID 0 on this board with no problems. I am using
the drivers from ASUS's site. You may want to download the hard drive
utilities from Western Digital's web site and run them against your Raptors.
The problem may be with one of the drives.

I can’t give you any advise, I use the same type of HD on SATA1 and
SATA2 in raid 0, on SATA3 and SATA4 I have 2 WD800 7200 RPM in another
raid 0. Is has been running now for about a month without any
problems.

Hope you find a solution to your problem.
