Question Problems with the keys of my Logitech G213 keyboard

So I bought a Logitech G213 keyboard about 1.5 years ago and I started to have problems with it. Sometimes I would have to press certain keys twice or even three times for the keystroke to register. This would particularly be a problem for the i,o,u and v keys.

Also with some keys when I press them they will react as if I had pressed them twice. So if I pressed the "f" key once then "ff" will appear on my screen.

I explained this to Amazon and they sent me a replacement G213 in June which seemed to work okay for a short while but now I'm having the exact same issues as before. I have no idea what the problem is. It's driving me insane.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Have you tried taking keycaps off to see if there is any dust or hairs or other stuff under them?
it happens, keys can get dust under them and it stops them working... or they can repeat
I had a G910, had to take keys off occasionally

blowing compressed air under them works. I use a paint brush to clean stuff off my current kb

Well see, I had a crappy Dell keyboard for 10 years and I never cleaned it(even though it was extremely dusty etc) whereas these Logitech keyboard seem to malfunction after a short period of time.

How do I actually remove the keys on this particular keyboard? Is there a particular tool you can use? My fingers wouldn't be strong enough.

I would bet space bar easiest place to start. I don't recall it being that hard on my G910. I also didn't have to do it very often.

Okay so I was able to remove all of the keys and I cleaned all of the dust and small debris underneath. The problem still persists unfortunately. Sometimes I have to press the "u" key three times before the computer registers it. It's so annoying.

I wonder if it's an issue with my computer in some way? In device manager it says underneath the Keyboards that there are three "HID Keyboard Devices". Is this normal? I only have one keyboard plugged in.

The Keyboard area is for legacy devices, most new devices should be under the Human Interface Devices header

I have 5 HID Keyboard Device - I can't say if its normal or not. Your keyboard might actually be under the header I mentioned above

Do the problems with keyboard happen in safe mode? shame its only sometimes... would take too long to test really
is this windows 10?
  1. go to settings/update & security/recovery
  2. under advanced startup, click restart now button
  3. this restarts PC in a blue menu
  4. choose troubleshoot
  5. choose advanced
  6. choose startup options
  7. click the restart button
  8. choose a safe mode (it doesn't matter which) by using number associated with it.
  9. Pc will restart and load safe mode

Well here's a video of me using the keyboard which shows how the "U" key is malfunctioning:

I'm going to try what you advised and load the computer in safe mode and see will the keyboard work better.

I had to replace an old Razer keyboard as the E key stopped working and you don't realise how much you use some keys until they don't always work.

i somehow expect it will be the same in safe mode.

G213 keys sometimes not working

looks like a problem with the model.

I think it works like this. When a key is pressed, the raised dome on the membrane under the key is squished onto the top layer of film. This, in turn, presses the printed circuit through the cutout in plain middle layer and makes contact with the circuit on the layer underneath. This is the point at which the key-press is registered. It occurred to me that if any of the sheets were misaligned, or if the silicon membrane wasn't sitting quite right, there could be issues with typing.

So essentially its a manufacturing defect.

there is a fix here but its not simple, involves taking keyboard apart - https://eatingorangesandmakingids.blogspot.com/2020/08/logitech-g213-keyboard-missed-duplicate.html

If you don't want to fix it that way, I would buy a different Model keyboard. Maybe a real mechanical keyboard instead of this pretend one.

Yeah I just tried to use the keyboard in safe mode and the problem is the same unfortunately. I don't want to go through the trouble of taking the keyboard apart. Thanks for finding those instructions for me though.

Could you recommend me a reliable keyboard for me to buy?

It really depends how much you want to spend. I prefer to spend a little more on a better part hoping it lasts longer than cheaper ones. Try to get at least 5 years out of a keyboard. If I am going to use it every day it has to work.

The most reliable Keyboard I ever used isn't made any more. I had a Microsoft Gaming keyboard and although it was only membrane, it was the longest lasting keyboard I used. Maybe not 10 years but long enough, that it was hard to find like it after... well, still is. Not many keyboards have detachable numberpads - https://news.microsoft.com/download/hardware/SideWinderX6FS_FINAL.pdf

Since then I had a Razer Keyboard (2 in fact. 1st one the cable broke on me, so they replaced it) which lasted about 3 years until the E key stopped
Then I got a Logitech G910 that still works 5 years on but I wanted something new
Now have a Corsair K70 keyboard and its been good too.

its still 3rd on this list - https://www.rtings.com/keyboard/reviews/best/by-usage/gaming
https://www.tomsguide.com/best-picks/best-keyboard hard to avoid logitech

I wouldn't buy Razer, not because hardware is bad, but because their software is.

most reliable make seems to be Logitech but they make so many models that the bad can be overshadowed by the good.

I'm seriously thinking of getting the Corsair K70. Are mechanical keyboards more reliable than membrane ones like the Logitech G213? I wont have the same issues?

Yours appears to have failed from misalignment of the membrane under the keys themselves, Mechanical Keyboards work differently and have an individual switch under every key
mine needs cleaning
jlm9JiU.jpg

So the only problems you might get are what I described at start: hair, dust, etc can get between keycaps and the switch and not make contact but taking them off and cleaning them is all it takes.
Took 2 years before I had to remove any keys and do that on mine.
K70 comes with a few spare keycaps as well. Mostly replacements for qwerasdf keys. Comes with a keycap removal tool as well.

make sure you check what type of switches on the keyboard, some are louder than others - https://switchandclick.com/cherry-mx-guide/

I have this one - https://www.corsair.com/us/en/Categ...Gaming-Keyboards/K70-RGB-MK-2/p/CH-9109012-NA
but they released a new version this year - https://www.corsair.com/us/en/Categ...RO-Mechanical-Gaming-Keyboard/p/CH-9109410-NA
they look about the same.
