My laptop (Windows 7) cannot find the Probox smart family ext hard drive. When I tried to partiition the hard drive (don't even really knows what it means), it tells me the device is not ready. Any suggestions? My laptop is nearly at max capacity (in the red), so I'm desperate to get some stuff off it. Thanks!

had a similar problem with a seagate drive, check the manufacturers website and see if they have any drive software. I had to partition mine because it didnt work out of the box.

I'm lost! Sorry but am complete amateur - I haven't done anything with it. Bought it about 2 years ago, and as my laptop is now full, thought I'd better start moving my videos onto it.

Thanks, I had already tried with no luck unfortunately.

My name is Harald and I greatly would appreciate your help for You seem to know about this "box". I have data on it, it worked on my ACER laptop and does not on my new ASUS. I cant find a web page of this PROBOX company but a "beautiful picture" of the device on a web site. Analyzing the problem on WINDOWS Devices and Printers page for the unspecified device - I get as a result the message that the driver is missing and that's where the "solution"ends.

Since an external HDD is not such a sophisticated device one would expect it working with a "generic driver for HDD". Do you know anything about that?

I greatly appreciate your support - I have all my back up and archive data since 2001 on this drive for how can we trust DROPBOX or GOOGLE Drive, can we?
