I have a Z170 Asrock pro 4 motherboard with a i3 6100(dumb I know) and am going to get a I5 6600k here in a few weeks.

Can I just take the I3 out and place in the I5 without anything being effected?

Yes, it should work with no problem. I wouldn't call it dumb, because you basically was using the i3 as a place holder (at least I hope so).

lol Yes the I3 was just a place holder until I could afford better.

Thank you for the reply.

I would always do a clean install with a new MB but I do not think I have any drivers specific to the I3 itself. But I may just do a clean install if I see it not working correctly for any reason.

Thank you for the reply.
