Hello everyone.

I know how much people hate the generic "what should I get" questions, so I'll try to be as specific as possible.

I'm currently planning on building my second computer, and I have everything nailed down execpt the processor. My current line of thought is an eVGA 7800GT, 2 gigs of Kingston value ram, and an eVGA socket 939 motherboard (there is a package deal on newegg with the graphics card). My dilema comes into sight with the CPU. Before I had looked into the data, I was thinking of getting a AMD 64 3800+. When I went onto newegg, I saw that the duel core version was only about 15 bucks more, so I figured I would just get the 64 3800 X2 and be prepared for any duel core advantages down the road. However, lately I have been reading that the best values for the X2 series are found with the more expensive versions like the 4200, 4400, and 4600. I also took a look at the CPU charts on this site as noticed that, for the games (this system will be used almost 100% for gaming, BF2, HL2, WoW, etc.) the single core processors preform actually higher than the duel cores. However, this was on slightly dated games with relativly low settings.

I am on a pretty tight budget and would like to keep the system under 1000 if at all possible. If I could make a downgrade to something like the 3700+ and save 100 or so that would be great. My questions are:

Will the preformance increases from going to a chip like the 4200+ X2 be a significant upgrade over the 3800+ X2?

How much will I actually gain from duel core, and would it be a significant hit to move down to the 3700+? Would this be the best value?

Thanks a lot, and please point out any obvious solutions I missed!

Forgot to add: I'm not an overclocker, but I was thinking about expirimenting and learning some of the basics with this system.

or buy a 3200+ with a good vid card which u have and when u get the money later buy a mid range/upper classs CPU socket 939 will support the FX Series etc.
