Question processor came with weird gunk

i bought a ryzen 5 5500 off of AliExpress 15 days ago and it arrived today with what it seems to be hardened thermal paste on the pins

does anyone know if i need to remove that and how to remove that

It might...it might not; you just don't know. Use isopropyl alcohol along with the paintbrush to clean it off.

At least now you know it's been tested for you. You just don't know if it passed or failed.

It's AliExpress...who knows what they do.

It seems obvious it's a used processor though; hopefully that was your understanding when you bought it.

ALSO almost forgot get a piece of metal or something to ground any static. DO NOT FRY THE CPU, if your using isopropanol alcohol u should be fine.

That should work dip a little tiny drop on the brush and gently guide it off. Make sure it's wet but no soaking wet, ground any charge you made have made before testing if it works and let it dry in the sun for a day at least before booting it.

oh yeah thats no problem my rx 5700 xt didnt arrive yet and psu is not even bought

That is NOT a "New" item.

One of the many many reasons I don't buy from AliE.


Further, the listing says "New but without cooler"
The R5 5500 is supposed to come with the Wraith Stealth cooler.

Did it come in an AMD box, sealed, with a heatsink/fan? If not it's highly likely used.

It could be a pull from a pre-built computer. Not exactly new but also not used very much. But stating "new" with no qualifiers is still wrong.

i cleaned it today could get the most out of it but theres still a lil bit in there, but then i saw this video

Only if it's the electricaly conductive variety of thermal paste would it likely damage anything But if it's compacted into the holes enough to interfere with making reliable connection between the pin and socket it won't work until you clean it out.
