Processor compatibility question

Ok, so I am looking at this motherboard: ASUS P8Z77-V LK LGA 1155
It has the LGA 1155 processor socket, I'm looking at this processor called Intel Core i5-3350P, which is also LGA 1155, but my question is will this processor work with this motherboard: Asus Z87-K Motherboard - ATX, LGA1150?

One other thing what does SATA mean? It looks like it has to do with Hard drives, are there compatibility issues with hard drives?

No Don't worry youre processor will work with that motherboard, as for sata their are three types of sata. Sata1 sata2 and sata3. All they refer to is max transfer rate of the sata bus. Most Hdd's youll buy will only use the sata2 aka sata 3gbz bus. whereas most ssd's will use the sata 3 aka sata 6gb bus.

Yes, that processor will work correctly with that motherboard :)

SATA is one of the common interfaces used to connect a Hard Drive to the Motherboard. Almost all Hard Drives and Motherboards use this interface. There is not really a compatibility issue, as long as it uses the right connector. But it's going to be hard for you to find one that is not correct.

What are you all reading? It's between LGA1155 and LGA1150.

Yeah, he is all confused...

The first part of the question is between 2 components that will work correctly that he is looking at (Ivy-Bridge I5 and Z77) and then he throws a Z87 board in from I have no idea where...


So to answer...


Yes the i5 will work with the P8Z77

No, the i5 will not work with the Z87-K

My guess is OP wants to upgrade the motherboard to Haswell and wonders if Ivy Bridge CPU will work on the new motherboard. I answer the question as is. Assuming otherwise will compromise your answer because OP may have meant what he/she said. I specifically said in my post that it won't work with the Asus Z87-K motherboard. 😉

You meant PCIe. And yes. Just know that in both the PCIe and SATA cases, the PCIe card or storage/optical drive will only operate at the lower of the two speeds. So if you plugged a SATA II compatible drive into a SATA III port will run at SATA II speeds. A SATA III compatible drive plugged into a SATA II port will also run at SATA II speeds.
