Hi, I'm planning to buy a desktop for the upcoming patch "Legion" of World of Warcraft. My budget will allow me to get a GTX 960+ i5 6402p or GTX 970 + i3 6100. I'm planning to upgrade any of them 6 months later i.e if I choose i3, I'll get i5/i7 if I choose GTX 960 I'll get GTX 1060. Also I'll use it for playing a little of Dota 2 and CS: GO.

Any suggestions?

PS: I live in India prices of GPU and CPU vary a lot from US price tags

Thanks for your reply. I've read that World of Warcraft is a CPU based game and mostly a single threaded game. Hence, I might go with your words, but my only concern is will i3 6100 bottleneck the GPU (GTX 970)?

Please respond.

I'd get the i5 and either a RX 480 or 470(470 will be released soon). Basically everything from the 970/R9 390 and down into the $99 range are not good buys. The 480 is faster than the 970/390, yet cheaper. The 470 is expected to be ~R9 380(X) performance range, which the 380 is already faster than the 960.

Thanks for your reply. I've just seen a video in Youtube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1x_WNbO8ydY) the person in that video was getting 60 FPS in Good settings and 30 in ULTRA with i5 + GTX 960 setup, is he doing something wrong, (because as per the benchmark it should do better) also will I better FPS in a 24" (1080p) screen in ULTRA settings with i3 + GTX 970?

Please respond.

The i3 is no slouch, but the i5 is stronger and Blizzard is getting better about threading their games. If you are stuck on nVidia instead of best price/performance, then I would get the i5 with the 960. The i5's are considered the best gaming CPU's and the 960 is middle of the road, but you are running at 1080p and shouldn't be an issue unless you want to play on ultra. When I played WoW, every time I went into a raid, it was my old CPU that was pushed (CPU I had before the one in my sig.)

Thank you for your response. The price difference of RX 480 and GTX 970 in Indian market is about $75 (i.e RX 480 costs more $75), although I agree with you that RX 480 beats GTX 970, but the actual question is that is worthy to pay more $75 to get RX 480 (as I'm a little tight in budget) also considering the fact that I'm not going to play any other games apart from the 3 those are listed above?

Please respond.

The i5 will be better for WoW, as for the GPU, I would suggest waiting for the RX 470, there is a very good chance that it will outperform the 960, but for less money. MSRP for the 470 is $149 I believe.

Thanks for your response, I've opted for i5 and 960 build. It can hold upto 60 fps in ultra settings at crowded places such as SW. I'm more than satisfied. :)

I'm looking at this exact build for wow and was wondering what i5 you ended up using?
