Processor not working?

So I've been using an intel Q9400 CPU in my computer for a couple of months now and recently when I went to turn the pc on it wouldn't start, by that I mean all the lights and fans turn on but no mobo beep or bios popping up.

I checked if the PSU was shoddy, unplugged RAM stick, but when I changed my CPU to the wonderfully old E2140 the computer boots up, I try my Q9400 and it still doesn't work.

I have an ASUS p5kpl-vm motherboard.

Any help?

Updated BIOS and the Q9400 worked again fine! Except windows still recognized the old e2140 CPU. Restarted the computer and it works fine now. Thanks!
