if you want to play a 1080p blu-ray disc the cpu requirements are less demanding than a 1080p quicktime movie oddly enough. you will get better performance on the quicktime movie if you try to do the playback under Ubuntu (www.ubuntu.com) vs in Windows Vista.

you do need to have an HDCP video card; there are many affordable ones these days.

Hello thread necromancer, in DirectX we have something called DxVA (Windows only) which has been lingering for years now since the introduction of MPEG2 (DVD). It takes the majority of video processing off the processor and uses the graphics controller to do the job instead.
The commonly used codec today for 1080p are H.264 and VC-1 (part of BluRay spec.) and is supported by HD3000 or Geforece8000 or later series and also by Intel G4x-series for full DxVA acceleration.

You can use AnyDVD HD to totally bypass HDCP. Full HDCP setup is not mandatory if you use that.

Now please let this thread rest in peace and stop spreading false info.

Hi, I have 7400 in my laptop but I am unable to play 1080p, can you please tell me if there is anything wrong with configuration or if I need to do something to make it play?

I have a i5 quad-core 760 2.80Ghz
4gb 1600mhz ram
ATI Radeon 5850 graphics card
is this not good enough to play a 1080p quicktime movie?
