Program (x86) shortcuts dissociated themselves after BSOD. Duplicated x86 created.

Hi,

I had a blue screen of death. When I came to restart my computer, all the shortcuts in my 86 folder had disassociated themselves.

Now when I install a new program, everything goes into an identically names "Program File (x86).
Desktop shortcuts don't work and windows search app doesn't work.

Any ideas?

run Malwarebytes to try to clean your pc of virus.
then as a manager run cmd and type sfc/ scannow

Hi, Thanks for the info.
I ran the scan which found 10 threats.
Did sfc /scannow

Repair seemed to happen.
However, I still have two program folders. The first, with all my programs. The second, anything new I download, with the addition of new windows folders from the fix.

backup your data. reinstall windows/apps

The second one has nothing I want. All of these files are in the first "real" one

By reinstall do you mean fresh install? Can this not be deleted in another way?
