Programs not working

Hi, I'm not very experienced with computers much, but I'm having a problem with my laptop and was helping anyone could perhaps help me out? I hadn't downloaded anything on my computer, but it's stopping me from using skype, playing a game and even using AVG. Whenever I try and open skype the same message pops up asking me to close it from it not responding. If I try and play a game, it doesn't load up and if I try and use AVG and select "Scan" it comes up with not responding and asks me to close it down. Everytime this happens and I was wondering if anyone knew what the problem was and a way of fixing it? Thanks!

P.S I have a Windows 7, Sony Vaio laptop.

Hi, Try a system restore to a previous date, before experiencing those issues.

When I tried to restore it, it said "Process failed, please pick a earlier restore point", but the thing is I don't have a earlier restore point because it was turned off from a Anti-Virus software (Avast) which suggested that I switched it off.

Can you suggest of another method? Would really appreciate it.

Yes they be uninstalled and reinstalled, but still not work.
