I have a Hitachi CP-DX250 projector, and while the projector was powering up, the on/off switch of the power bar was accidentally turned off. After that, the projector would turn on, the lamp wouldn't. The projector would also display a red flashing light under the "lamp" light. I read in the user manual about this error message, and all it said was "the lamp is not lit."

I'm guessing that the bulb burnt out, then?

Also, would a UPS prevent this sort of thing in the future?

Solution
If the bulb got hot enough before power got cut, maybe a thermal fuse inside the projector or the lamp assembly got tripped due to heat buildup and needs to be replaced.

And yes, in principle, an adequately sized UPS should be able to prevent damage from an accidental unplug of the UPS. Just make sure to plug it back in or shut down the projector before the battery runs out.
