Promise Controller Card

Semi-newbie here, If I already have 4 ide devices (2 HD 1 CD burner and 1 CD ROM), can I buy one of those nifty Promise Controller cards and connect two more Hard Drives?? I know SCSI is better but I really dont want to mess with SCSI yet.

That should work for you assuming you have available IRQs and no hardware conflicts. Might as well buy one and try it out. They are pretty cheap. If you want to get experimental, read Tom's guide on turning the Promise ATA 100 IDE controller into a RAID controller.
