Please let me know what you think.

I'm thinking that for starters the onboard audio will be sufficient for my purposes.

Am I missing anything?

Thanks!

If the most intensive video application you're going to have is decoding blu-ray discs or high-def content then the onboard graphics will suffice.

Also, some have said to use win 7 release candidate until it is available to buy.

Thanks for the advice!

looks similar to the build im making (though mine only needs one hdd, i have a 2.5TB server on gigabit lan)

i would love to hear an update on how well that tv tuner does, im looking at the same one (except with remote incuded) for my build

I'm keeping my eyes open for deals - so it may be a little while beofer I actually make the purchase.

One option I'm considering is more like your configuration - with a NAS (build).
Did you build your server?

Thanks,

I have both the Hauppauge HVR-1600 and HVR-2250 in my HTPC. They are both excellent tuner cards. I highly recommend the 2250. I also recommend Windows 7. I was surprised at how well it worked out of the box for a HTPC. I had to do some registry hacks and stuff to get Vista to recognize and properly implement both TV tuners, but Windows 7 worked great without any changes.

You're probably right - I was probably just getting a little greedy!

It's got the right specs (and price).

Two knocks against it though:

1) It's not passively cooled - I'm trying to keep the htpc as quiet as possible
2) several users noted that the card ran a little hot

Again the specs are excellent - in a bigger well -ventilated case it would be perfect

Here's 3 4650's with passive coolers:
