Proprietary motherboard swap

I am looking to gut a OEM PC and put it in a nice case. Any idea on what model computers have motherboards that aren't proprietary and could be swapped into nicer cases for gaming . Maybe something with second gen I5? I tried the optiplex route but figured out that really isn't an option unless you keep it in the original case.

All the factory-built PCs use proprietary fittings and connectors to some degree -- it's a necessary evil of the production line & speed of production.

If you don't fancy building a PC yourself from scratch, get one built for you at a local system builder shop.

I don't need to buy a pre built, I just have friends that want to get into gaming on PC and don't have a spare $1000 to get a okay one. So I figured there must be a PC you can get like the optiplex or 8200 elite and swap a few things to make it look decent & preform well for 1080p gaming.
