Hi guys!

I'm currently using the router that my ISP provided for me, it is connected via a Coaxial cable (not DSL).
I'm connected through a switch with a Cat5e cable. getting a solid speed in speedtest.net, ping is good.
The problem is when any family member tries gaming, anything from Packet loss, to lossing connection, to higher ping then usual.
It seems that some features aren't working correctly, UPnP and such.

So to the point!
If I buy a good quality router, will it be any good for wired connection gaming? assuming there is not a specific problem with the ISP or the hardware.
I did try 2 different ISP with the same provided router I have right now.

I would like some advice,

Thanks in advance!

Solution
It is unclear are you saying it works ok when you only have 1 machine on but when other family members do other things it affects the machine you have cabled via ethernet. Or do you just mean you have problems in general no matter who is using the machine.

Even very inexpensive routers can handle a number of users and easily handle the traffic rates you pay for. It could be defective router from the ISP but it is unlikely.

This looks more like you are getting packet loss as the load increases.

Your first step is to leave a constant ping run to some common IP like 8.8.8.8 so you can see what is happening.

The question about upload rates is not so much how much your game uses but if someone is to say sync their phone to some...

Solution
As long as you're not twitch streaming while you game, 5mbps upload is fine and 200mbps download is fine as long as no one is doing a game update or download a huge file.

Most ISP routers don't have QOS or have an extremely basic version of QOS. They aren't meant for gaming.

I'd recommend you buy your own modem if you can and and use your own router. If you aren't allowed to buy your own modem in your country, than you can put your ISP router into bridged mode and install your own router.

I'd recommend a good Asus router compatible with Merlin software (https://www.asuswrt-merlin.net/). Turn on QOS and use the FQ_Codel algorithm. Set the bandwidth limits to 85% of your maximum speedtest speeds. Your gaming issues will be solved.
