I actually still have my original launch PSP, and even that I ended up hardly using. For me I think they would have to just give me one for me to bother. I play mostly PC games these days, with the occasional time wasters on my phone.

Sony just don't seem to get it, the reason the biggest selling handheld in history (the Gameboy) as so stressful was because the games were simple yet addictive and the system was cheap, that market is now dead as the mobile phones we all own can play simple yet addictive games without buying a handheld. Sony have tried to compensate for it by making the system more featured and expensive but it just isn't working hence why the Vita is selling like the Atari Lynx.

I thought that they would port a bunch of their PS2 titles. The hardware seems to match in capability. Tons of nice Japanese RPGs I would love to spend my money on.

Yeah, I agree; adding PS2 compatibility would be a huge boost for the Vita. Right now the lack of original titles for the Vita means that the PSP is a more useful device for a lot of people due to the large PSP library (larger than the Vita's due to the lack of some key titles on PSN) and full PS1 library. PS2 support would add a huge number of games to the Vita and would be a legitimate reason to push a lot of users into moving away from their PSPs.

[citation][nom]Vladislaus[/nom]A tablet is not a portable gaming system, and never will be. Not to mention that the hardware on the PS Vita is still more powerful than most if not all $200 tablets. Also, most 200$ tablets don't have 3G.[/citation]
The Vita's hardware may be more powerful but the Vita is tied to a closed and expensive ecosystem. ~$200 tablets like the N7 may not be uber-powerful but they still got pretty decent 3D capabilities.

While I am not much of a fan of on-screen controls either, I am not much of a fan of paying $20-50 for a traditional console game when I can get a similar entertainment value (albeit of a potentially different nature) for $0-5 on a tablet or smartphone.

As for 3G, how many people would ever bother getting a data plan for a game console? For most people, this makes it a non-feature. Bluetooth tethering and WiFi make a lot more sense and most $200 tablets can do that.

Sure, tablet/smartphone gaming may not be quite the same as gaming on a device with physical buttons but phone/tablets are still consuming an increasingly large chunk of the mobile gaming mindshare - people only have so much time and money to spend on entertainment, regardless of what form it comes in.

[citation][nom]thermopyle[/nom]I'm not sure what you were getting at with this comment. Are you trying to argue that portable gaming is pointless? The Vita has the largest screen of the portable gaming systems out nowadays and the power to drive heavy-duty games. It's definitely handicapped by the lack of original titles, but the hardware itself is quite solid.[/citation]
Wow -7 for making a fair argument? Don't you get tired of looking at a screen as big as a hand? Maybe I've been spoiled by my first computer with a 14" CRT....

I didn't down-vote him, so I'm not sure why people did. I'd guess because his statement was pretty unclear, which is why I asked for him to elaborate on his response.

Xbox360 controllers work with tegra tablets so, not quite sure why anyone would say a 10in isn't for gaming. With hdmi I can go out to tv also. Other controllers work also, just giving an example. I'm pretty sure you can do the same with other chips in tablets not just NV but not sure about it. So portable hotel gaming on the go here, with hdmi out to tv. You get your game on the big screen while having a gamepad in your hands. 3DS/Vita can't do that. Note you can also do this with the latest phones. Handhelds have no future and sales show it, so do nintendo's sales projections for this year (the cut everything) and developers jumping ship.

[citation][nom]halcyon[/nom]I've tried to stay young at heart and into this stuff but I just can't get into serious portable gaming like this widget allows anymore. Really loved the Metroid on the gameboy back in '92. Getting old sucks, but it does beat the alternatives.[/citation]

Project Shield?
