Ps1 NOISE PLEASE HELP URGENT PLEASE

I posted this in another thread but noone answered, my ps1 is making a strange clicking and wirring noise,it's the spindle but I can't replace it and I can't open up the system. It is not an option. When I spin the spindle it makes this wirring noise. The ps1 still reads games but I need to now, is this normal? Or not? I bought this just today. It is a fat ps1. The laser also makes a loud noise when moving

That laser is like 20 years old. It's a wonder there are working ones.

If you bought it used from a used game store or something I would take it back. Making noises in a laser means it cant focus and it probably going to die.

Sounds like the motor that spins the disks is starting to wear out from use.

The PS1 is over 15 years old. It is approaching the point where we can expect them to start failing due to bit rot in their firmware flash memory.

I would simply switch to emulator instead of trying to keep it alive and possibly ruining it in the process.

Either that, or move to a fat PS2 or try to find a PS1 that has been lightly used. Even an old broken one. For example, my parents bought one for us in the 1990s. We used it heavily for maybe 5 years at most, then got an Xbox. Hardly touched it after that. Not sure if it still works, because I believe my brother spilled pop on it at some point, but I kept it none the less. I'm going to try it here one day, and if it doesn't work, I'll go find a broken one that is reporting the disk drive has issues, salvage the drive components from my old one, and end up with a working system for another 10 years or so.

You could try to do the same.

My PS1 is still functioning somehow; sometimes I have to give it a bang for it to kick up.
