PS2 vs Xbox 360

I've had my PlayStation 2 since I was five years old and it still works today. I don't see the need to upgrade because if it still works, why get rid of it? Sure, the console will eventually go obsolete, but as long as I can still find games for it, I'm gonna keep it.

Eventually I'll upgrade to the PS3, but until I have to, I'm not rushing. People keep telling me to get an Xbox, but I don't really want to because I don't play games like Call of Duty where you can get online with it, so I don't see the need. That, and I don't feel like having to get used to the new controller. I've used an Xbox 360 before while playing Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe, but I sucked because I couldn't find the right buttons.

So, what do you guys think? Post your opinion and you just might get me to buy an Xbox 360. :kaola:

I think you should make decision here looking into the exclusive games available for the xbox 360 and ps3 and based on that you can make your choice. Xbox 360 have many good games like Gear of war, HALO and the one i always wanted to play Alan Wake. On the other hand you have the almighty Uncharted series, metal gear solid and God of war series.
I think going with ps3 will be a smart choice as it is better in terms of performance and games that are available from Sony and also you are much more familier with the PlayStation controller so it will be a smart move.

I had a similar path to kratos in terms of my console selection.

I had my PS2 for quite a few years before deciding to upgrade. I was a huge fan of the PS2 and I always bashed the XBOX controllers saying the PS2 one was perfect. However, when I was deciding between the PS3 and the XBOX 360 a couple of factors swayed me to the XBOX 360.

- XBOX Live is far superior to the PS3 Online. Even though your not interested in online you can get free demos and other things.
- The exclusive titles on the Xbox 360 (Halo 2 at the time among others)
- Just the desire for something new.

A few regrets that I wish I would have purchased a PS3 instead
- Exclusive games, mainly Gran Turismo!!
- The majority of my friends ended up buying PS3's and I wanted to play online with them.

On another note, if you are thinking about purchasing one now.... I would urge you to hold off. Your on the back end of the current gen of consoles (Wii, PS3, and XBOX 360) and you've left it long enough that you should just wait for the next gen. I would say make do with your PS2 games and supplement it with PC if you get bored.

You might kick yourself if you purchased a 360 or a PS3 right now and made that investment, only to have it obsolete in a a year (I have no knowledge on when the next gen is coming out... just a guess :) )

Edit: By the way the XBOX 360 controller is far superior once you get used to it. The fact that the Two analog sticks are offset a bit as opposed to the PS design, make it better. I suggest trying it out more before just being agains tit.

The seventh generation is nowhere near over yet. Sony and Microsoft want to just sit back and scoop up the licensing fees from the games for another 3 or 4 years, in order to make up for the losses they took in developing their consoles, and selling said consoles at a loss. The only way we are seeing a new generation any time soon is if the Wii U turns out to be as ridiculously successful as its predecessor. That scenario would force Sony and Microsoft to develop new consoles to counter Nintendo.

I have a 360 and before that I had a PS2. Do not get me wrong, I love PS2, I had a lot of fun on it.

However, for 360. I get good connection online. I love XBOX live. The graphics are not the greatest compared to PC gaming, however they are better than PS2. Higher resolution (as high as 720p), and more realistic and sharper effects, like better lighting, shadows, and just more better graphics in general.

Honestly, I love the durability and shape of the 360 controller. All my PS2 controllers I had have something wrong with them, like completely ruined or the R1,R2, L1,L2 buttons are all messed up. I suggest buying wired controllers instead of wireless, unless you are 10+ feet away from your TV.

On the bad side, XBOX live cost about 60 US dollar a year, and for a new game it cost about 60 dollars. So it is a little pricy.

XBOX does have Kinect which many like.

Also, I would stay away from the Slim Version of the 360. It is just more money for a new design. I would just buy a used 360 console which you can probably get for less than 100 bucks if you look hard enough.

Another cool thing about upgrading your console, is say good bye to memory cards. Enjoy having a hard drive for your console, which you can store much more games and even upload your game to your hard drive to reduce chances of game crashing and play with no DVD drive in the back ground.

And on last thing, I would not think about waiting for a new generation console. The new Microsoft console is said to come out in 2014 or later.

So if you want to upgrade your console do it now, do not wait.

PS3, does use blu ray and supports 1080p resolution, and I heard it has better graphics than 360 and smoother game play.

I would go with either console, it all depends on which exclusive games you like better.

1 more thing. I would just buy a used 360 or refurbished. So you can save some extra money and use that to buy some more games. Craigslist and eBay might be useful.
-You will not get any warranty but, most 360s red rings of death problem can be fixed by reapplying thermal compound on the CPU and GPU which is pretty easy.

You probably want a Hard Drive that is 60 GB or more.

I read above that you said you like fantasy games. You will not regret buying a 360 to play fantasy games on it. Those look the best on this console in my opinion. They have a lot of cool effects on spells and nice lighting and glow effects.

Good luck.

I would look into the wii u. It is a very interesting concept to me and correct me if I'm wrong but it is coming out in 2012. If you do decide going the xbox/ps3 route avoid the older xbox models. My friend went through 3 because of the red ring of death. I would recommend the ps3 over the xbox just because I thought killzone 3 was that awesome of a game and uncharted 3 is on its way. Also online play is free. Also free demos for the xbox isn't an arguement because the ps3 also gets that.

3. 3d gaming
4.better grafiks (the grafiks are way better than xbox 360 coz my friend had one and the grafiks were worse on the xbox
5. no need for batteries charge on usb
