So, i've been having this problem ever since i got my monitor in February. I have a 23" LED 1080p Asus monitor (VS238H), and whenever i hook it up with hdmi to the monitor and try to get audio out of the 3.5mm jack on the monitor when playing PS3, it makes a static sound when i start a game. Audio works fine with my Xbox 360 and Macbook Pro, but for some reason won't go away with the PS3. I've tried headphones, iPod speakers, earbuds, different hdmi cord, nothing works! Please help. Thanks. :)

Is there a device manager on Macs? I didn't have to install anything though. It was just plug in, arrange where i want the monitor, and done. I should've made it clear i had a Mac. Oh well.

I don't know about MACs specifically. There must be something similar to Device Manager and just to be different they will call it by some other name.

I found out that in OSX its called system profiler. But it only lists hardware, software, etc. I cant disable/enable anything. Looks like im screwed!

Don't give up! Try Apple's tech support and see whether they can throw some light (sound in this case) on the matter.

Hmm. Tried Asus support, didn't help. Never thought of giving Apple a try. Thanks!

So after asking Apple, Sony and Asus, nothing worked. I went to best buy and exchanged it for a Dell ST24. Now, instead of making static, it makes no noise at all -.-. I guess i wasted that time at Best Buy. Does anybody have a PS3 running on a monitor without noise problems? Maybe the PS3 prefers tv's for some reason. Oh well!\

EDIT: Apparently I need an actual speaker set and it should work fine. I guess the 3.5mm jack won't work with the PS3.

You have to go into the playstation audio output settings and turn off 5.1. only leave the 2.1 stereo default and the sound will come out perfectly fine. I was having the same problem, I have an audio jack coming out of the back of my Asus monitor that goes to speakers.
