PS3 connect to monitor with a dvi-hdmi adapter or cable

Hi!
I just got my PS3 slim 120GB system 2 days ago.
Since my monitor doesnt have a HDMI port (but has a DVI) i used a dvi-hdmi adapter:

Once i connected it i get green pixels moving like tv static on the picture (not covering the whole screen)
and the video goes out also.

I read in some forums that this adapter doesnt work but will only work if u connect an hdmi monitor to the ps3 dvi port (but a ps3 doesnt have a dvi port)

I then tried to find wat dvi-hdmi thing can connect a ps3 to monitor the way i want (hdmi from ps3 and dvi from monitor).
I searched youtube and other forums and they r all using dvi-hdmi Cables not Adapters.

My question is do all dvi-hdmi cables NOT adapters work to connect a ps3 to a monitor or are there just some that can.
Also my monitor is HDCP compatible so it's not my monitor, I also figured out the sound so i just need to get the video.

DVI and HDMI send the same EXACT video signal, so if the signal isn't being received by the moniter, the only possiblities are that you set the resolution to something the moniter doesn't support, or the converter cable doesn't work right.

K thx i think it's just the adapter cuz i can see the image fine on 720p ( i needed 2 turn the resolution down on my friends t.v cuz my monitor cant use 1080p).

But im just wondering wat is better the cables or the adapters?

I know my monitor actually had hdmi, and it worked fine. But DVI should be a digital signal as well. Curious, maybe this has nothing to do with it, but I know you said you have sound sorted out. Did you make sure to turn off the option to send sound through hdmi? If not, maybe it's sending too much data to the monitor and it's not sure how to handle it? Also, it is possible you have a bad cable. Try wiggling the cable and moving it to different angles and see if it acts different.

Probably either one is fine. Just a note though, on monoprice.com you can usually get an hdmi cable for just a few bucks, like 5 or less for say a footI think, and they are cheap all over ebay too. Not much performance difference from like monster or the like as far as I know. So you don't have to overpay again.

good point i did turn off the option to send the sound through HDMI. I tried to see if it does it with my xbox and it does, but not on low settings like 420p (still blury though) I'm just not sure if it's my cable or my adapter. Also aren't all HDMI cables performance the same?

The reason you are hitting a wall is simple, you will need an HDMI to HDMI cable to connect your PS3 to an LCD TV or you can also use the componenet cable to conect it to a regular TV/LCD. Once this is done go into the options and change the settings to "HDMI". Disconnect the cable from the TV and reconnect the HDMI/DVI cable from the PS3 to your monitor and you should be good to go. The PS3 does not auto default to HDMI when you power it up for the first time, this has to be done manually. I have my slim connected to a 24" LCD using the same cable that you have (HDMI/DVI).

If that doesn't work then you have a bad cable..

i have similar problem using hdmi to dvi to my lg 2243t monitor where no picture at all..already done as you stated above still no picture. but then i try using the very same cable using it from my pc to the monitor and it works fine the cable is ok so what is wrong??

try messing with the options on that specific LG monitor, look for a source button or something that will change it from DVI to HDMI.

already done that but it only appear digital at upright of the monitor..

but actually did i do it the right way where i connect my ps3 to both monitor (using hdmi to dvi cable) and to my tv (using yellow, red and white cable) at the same time. the picture will only appear at my tv only then i go to display setting and choose hdmi, after that my tv will go blank and my monitor will flick a bit but no picture but after 30 sec the picture appear back at my tv..fail

and oso try reset my ps3 to default setting also connect both my tv and my monitor at the same time since i cant get any picture at my monitor to do the setting. after it restart the picture only appear at my tv but it detect there is a connection using hdmi and then ask me whether want to change to hdmi connection and i pick yes. oso the same things happen after 30 sec it revert back to my tv..

so did i do wrong here?
