PS3 Trophy notifications

Color me old school, but I've never been that big a fan of trophies/achievements in the 1st place. But with the most recent PS3 firmware update, which removes the option to turn off notifications.... I'd just as soon turn off achievements altogether. I'm OCD, sure I'll say it myself, so when a character is giving that great line, or something intense is happening in a cut-scene, or when temporary instructional text is on the screen, that *PL-ING* "You Earned a TROPHY!" is like a small child screaming, or someone's really loud phone ringing in the seat behind you in a movie, or that low battery noise on that misplaced phone that wakes you up every 10min.... and after a night of unrestful sleep when you finally find it, only the cost of the phone keeps you from breaking the @#%$ thing.

I'd pay $10 a month just for the ability to turn it off.

So, if anyone knows ANY possible way to turn it off...
or what firmware version was the one that changed it...
or if I factory reset my PS3 and never hook it up to the internet again, someone can guarantee that most games will still run and wont patch the option back out via game-disc firmware patches..

I'd be most gratefull to them.

I don't think disabling it was ever an option. You must be hyper sensitive because I rarely ever hear the pling (game sounds are louder) and can barely see the trophy pop up (47" tv). I usually have to check the trophies just to see if I have anything new.

Anyhow, I don't think there is anyway to override it.

As I said, before I updated the system's firmware the "Disable notifications" not only turned off friends and messages but trophy notifications as well.

As for hypersensitive, I said I was a bit OCD. I Love games, I've played them for years, I play them now. I have a gaming PC and a 360, not to mention older systems. I only acquired a PS3 a year or 2 ago and have been collecting and enjoying many PS3 only titles..... How ever 3 days ago, after an update, they suddenly came on with no normal way to disable them. I love to get lost in my games (see "Immersion") and I guess I'd liken it to sleeping, and the *PL-ING* and grey box to an alarm-clock. Imagine going to the movie theater and every 10-20min you'd get a *PL-ING* and a grey box popped up and said "You got through 10-20min!".....

Needless to say, that would cause most people to to demand their money back.

Until, of course, it was in enough movies for long enough and people stopped complaining about it and started defending it. I read 20 or so other message-boards/forums before posting here. Do you know what kind of responses the OP got to a simple "Is there a way to turn off trophy notifications?"? Flames, Trolls, every facet of their request, explanation, and even personality was attacked. I felt like I was watching one of those psychological thrillers were something happens to the main character and NO-ONE believes him/her even though you, as the viewer, knows that s/he is telling the truth.
It wasn't till I read the PS3 official suggestion forums that I found positive responses. The suggestion was for the option to turn off trophy notifications... it was voted down. Whilst 95% of all comments were positive.

@Hawkeye22- Sorry if I seem a bit over zealous, but not all of us have a 47"tv, and we most likely play different games, or the same games differently. Its just after reading so much hate towards anyone who asks it makes me a bit defensive. As I said before, I'm not that big on trophies in general, but I don't mind them being there, and sometimes I hunt them to change the way I play or to force me to learn something new. (Half-Life 2 E1: One free bullet, or Deus Ex-HR TML: Factory Zero) But I am VERY much against the inability to turn off pop-ups. Most especially on my 1st playthrough of a game. That's when I like to be fully immersed and make memories. And its based off that playthrough when/if/how often I'll play the game again.

Ya been there, there are 2 posts that refer to this and both have been voted down and the 5% of comments that were not positive are attacks or dismissals. I can't understand why anyone would down vote the option? When many of us hate them, and those people that don’t think its a bit deal or want them wouldn't be affected.
I feel rather lost at such aggressively negative responses...

I'm neutral on the subject, but anything the gives the user more choices - well, I'm all for it. If it were an option I could just as easily turn it on as turn it off.
