Put simply, is it possible?

I can't get a PS3 online due to having dial up, so my best bet is downloading them on PC. But, is this possible? Can I download them by PC, shove 'em on a USB stick and install them on the PC?

No doubt I could download them, as everything is on the internet somewhere. But, as you've guessed by now, I don't know if they'd work on the PS3.

By downloads, I mean:
- Firmware updates
- Game updates
- Backwards compatibility software patches (included in firmware?)

Thanks! :bounce:

Also, does anyone know of any good PS3 blogs/websites? I don't want a fanboy/bias one though, or at least not ones that claim everything that isn't a PS3 is crap, those ones just piss me off. I subscribe to quite a few RSS feeds, but most don't seem to have many PS3 posts. Also, what about PS3 podcasts? For both, an RSS feed is not essential, but HUGELY preferred. In fact, it pretty much is essential. Thanks. :)
EDIT: Found a couple. PS3 on QJ.net looks good, and PS3Fanboy.com also looks interesting (and not very fanboyish :)). Any others?

I am currently in Japan and I have been unable to get updates for my games. I am able to update the system software but not he games. When I try do download the game updates it gets patially through the update, times out, and then gives a dns error.

So can game updates be downloaded on a PC and then installed via cd/dvd or usb flash drive?

I know the system software can be updated this way but I have not been able to get this done for my games.

Thanks

To UPDATE PS3 through a cd/dvd, you're gonna need a cd/dvd disc, cd/dvd burner and a software for burning stuff(ex. Nero , My DVD Plus etc.).

1. Download PS3 Update from this websitehttp://www.us.playstation.com/PS3
and save it somewhere in your "My Documents".

2. Open your burning software, find a button with the word "DATA" or "DATA DISC" on it and press
it.

3. Make a folder that is called "PS3"[note: write all the letters in uppercase for the Ps3 is kind of
sensitive XD and the update might not work] . If your burning software doesnt have the button
with the word "folder" on it, try right clicking somewhere on the box where you put the files.

Note. If your software can't do all the stuff on step 3, I suggest you download a new burning
software. BTW: I use "MY DVD PLUS" software to burn the ps3 update XD

4. After you've created the "PS3" folder, double click on it and create a new folder called " UPDATE".
It should be like this

5.After you've created the "UPDATE" folder, double click on it and put the "ps3 update file".
It should look like this
Ex. PS3 > UPDATE > PS3UPDAT.PUP(its the ps3 update file called)

Bad Ex. PS3 > UPDATE
> PS3UPDAT.PUP

Bad Ex. PS3
UPDATE
PS3UPDAT.PUP

6. FINAL STEP: Click "BURN" button ^^

PEople I suggest you use a ReWritable CD/Dvd disc for burning in case you made a mistake
and the disc must be supported by your PS3 Console.
