Does exporting to a pst file delete or corrupt the original file?

I have a perhaps a 50 Gb pst files and it is taking long time to backup therefore we are thinking of aborting the process. Will doing so corrupt the original file in any way?

Question on export, now is a backup?
It might since it access the file to do backup. Should have just make a copied of the file.
