To be on the safe side, i'd go with 1kW unit. Preferably 1.2kW (1200W) unit.

Reason is explained here:

oh, my god.....its horribble..... but, they are using gigabyte rtx 3090 24gb aourus xtreme and evga rtx 3090 ti 24gb FTW3......

also, if i am using corsair rmx/rme 1000w 80+ gold, is it still good enough for asus/gigabyte/msi rtx 3090 ti 24gb rog strix oc/gaming oc/trio gaming x/suprim x .... ??

because, in here....

https://www.msi.com/blog/we-suggest-80-plus-gold-1000w-and-above-psus-for-nvidia-geforce-rtx-3090-Ti

MSI, say, all its will be fine.... the other say like that too, but on the other hand, they say that seasonic gx 850w 80+ gold, is still not enough.....

i am very confused.....

btw...

i have .... i9 10900 non k + asrock b560 steel legend + 2x16gb ddr4 + 3 hdd 7200rpm sata3 + 8x12cm fan casing + msi rtx 3080 10gb trio gaming z + seasonic gx 850w 80+ gold (2021)....

1.5KW PSU would be my suggestion, if you want to protect your investments.

if i want to build a new pc, using i9 gen 13 and rtx 4090 24gb it should be like that.... but, that is not my intention in here, because i dont have kind a budget like that, also i am not that interesting with that new pc build....

Post your entire build, depends on the other comnponents.

i have .... i9 10900 non k + asrock b560 steel legend + 2x16gb ddr4 + 3 hdd 7200rpm sata3 + 8x12cm fan casing + msi rtx 3080 10gb trio gaming z + seasonic gx 850w 80+ gold (2021)....

Yes, things are bad. And they will continue to worsen with RTX 40 series.

Those days where 550W PSU was enough (GTX 900, GTX 10, GTX 16 series) are past us. Starting from high end GTX 10 series, GPUs have transient power spikes, that have gotten worse as GPUs have gotten better (more power hungry).

Nowadays, with high-end GPUs (RTX 3080/3090/4080/4090), we need to have 1200+W PSU with ATX 3.0 standard.

What MSI says, is that when you have Core i7 or Core i9 (which you have), then for RTX 3090 Ti, a 1kW (1000W) PSU would do.

also, if i am using corsair rmx/rme 1000w 80+ gold, is it still good enough for asus/gigabyte/msi rtx 3090 ti 24gb rog strix oc/gaming oc/trio gaming x/suprim x .... ??

As you saw from GamersNexus video, RTX 3090 Ti can spike to 650W, despite GPU being 450W unit.

1kW unit should be okay, however, Steve has only one sample of RTX 3090 Ti and to be on the safe side, i'd go with 1.2kW (1200W) PSU instead. RTX 3090 Ti transient power spike can go to 800-900W range and better to be safe, than sorry.

it should handle powerspikes.

And if it doesn't, then what? Are you going to put your money where your mouth is, by buying OP a new 1.2kW PSU?

He already has the PSU, read carefully.
The post was edited, he was talking about a 3080, also i already talked about this, seasonic has good protections, i had 2x1080 ti (bios power unlocked) and a 6950X OC to 4.3 on a m12II 850W, everytime i pushed it too hard it would trigger the protections and shutdown clean, i repeat my self seasonic has very good protections, it will not fry anything is just a under a milisecond powerspike not like making a short on motherboard or pushing 12v to a 5v rail. But yes to be sure you will not shutdown your pc in the middle of something important 1000W is recomended.
Anyway in the manner of the original post a seasonic 850W unit would have been suffice for his needs but for a 3090 ti a 1000W good quality unit is recomended.

He already has the PSU, read carefully.

1. I know that OP already has 850W Seasonic unit.

The post was edited, he was talking about a 3080

2. OP's initial post is here, after which he created this topic, quoting my reply to him,
link: https://forums.tomshardware.com/thr...d-toms-hardware.3212332/page-82#post-22816655

OP has always talked about GPU upgrade, and not what he currently has.

i repeat my self seasonic has very good protections

3. I'm well aware of Seasonic and the quality of their PSUs. In matter of fact, ALL 3 of my PCs are powered by Seasonic;
Skylake - Seasonic PRIME 650 80+ Titanium [SSR-650TD]
Haswell - Seasonic PRIME Ultra 650 80+ Titanium [SSR-650TR]
AMD - Seasonic Focus+ 550 80+ Platinum [FOCUS-PX-550]
On top of that, my AMD build was powered by Seasonic S12II-520 80+ Bronze [SS-520GB] and Haswell was powered by Seasonic M12II-850 EVO 80+ Bronze [SS-850AM2], prior to the PSU upgrades.

(Full specs with pics in my sig.)

But yes to be sure you will not shutdown your pc in the middle of something important 1000W is recomended.

4. This is the sole reason why i suggested 1+kW unit for OP, so that OP's build won't shut off unexpectedly.

but for a 3090 ti a 1000W good quality unit is recomended.

5. And if you would've read carefully, OP is thinking to upgrade their RTX 3080 to RTX 3090 Ti, hence why OP asked if their Seasonic unit would be enough, for new GPU. Since it isn't, i suggested 1+kW unit for OP.

or modified main post

OP has not edited their initial post.
You can actually see if reply is edited, it's at the bottom right corner of the reply, just above the Like, Quote and Reply buttons (when using PC to view forums). E.g my reply is one of the edited ones, since i added #2 after i posted my reply.

Even topic title says RTX 3090, so, you probably read/remembered it wrong. (Has happened to me too.)

i am so sorry to make some people confused in here..... i have edit my 1st post in this topic.....

so, i will repeat again..... with that PSU 850w.... are my PSU is still working fine 100% ?? if i want upgrade into this vga ....
  1. asus rtx 3090 24gb tuf gaming oc, 2x8 pin, recommended PSU 850w
  2. asus rog rtx 3090 24gb strix oc, 3x8 pin, recommended PSU 850w
  3. msi rtx 3090 24gb trio gaming x, 3x8 pin, recommended PSU 750w
  4. gigabyte rtx 3090 24gb gaming oc, 2x8 pin, recommended PSU 750w
or, should i upgrade my PSU into corsair RME 1000w 80+ gold too..... ??

some people answer is that i should upgrade into PSU 1000w gold too....

especially, if i want to upgrade into asus rtx 3090 ti 24gb tuf gaming oc / msi rtx 3090 ti 24gb trio gaming x / gigabyte rtx 3090 ti 24gb gaming oc.....

Do you overclock the cpu or have it unlocked in any way?

If upgrading to a TI version of the 3090 just get that better psu suggested above, if the 3090 is fine would i just use one that has only two 8pin connectors, think myself they are abit more limited anyway (just a personal theory), see though that your psu carries three pcie cables so maybe you can get away with 3090's with three pcie power connectors.
For these 3090's with you current cpu (no overclock on the cpu, just normal turbo use) and rest of the system should you probably be fine with what you have, but only time will tell. As said if you would have ridiculous transient spikes would the psu just shutdown by interference of a protection.

It depends on what you do with the gpu as well, if it's a steady load are you probably fine, if you use, as they do, use Furmark, might you push the psu to those transient spikes, really high FPS gaming will also likely push those spikes high as well like CSGO or similar games on such a gpu. This you find also in that vid above.

So what do you do with the gpu?

why, i am very concern about this....

well, because i had trauma, a very long time ago.... when i still using Phenom x4 955 + 2x4gb ddr3 + 3 hdd 7200rpm (old, not this one) + corsair vx 550w....

using nvidia gtx 260 is safe...

upgrade into gtx 275 (some people just say, its safe for using corsair vx 550w) , only for a week, suddenly my PC dead, and then the gtx 275 just become smoke, its burn (yes there is a very litte burn in PCB).... twice.....

so, upgrade into gtx 465 (some people just say, its safe using corsair vx 550w), but, just another months, my pc is dead again.... twice......

in the end, corsair vx 550w has "burned" 2 gtx 275 and 2 gtx 465.... but, the rest of my hardware PC is still working normal, only the gpu, there is problem....

corsair vx 550w....

Low quality PSU, not worth the money it costs. And the fact that VX-series has already burnt two of your GPUs, proves the point even further.

some people just say, its safe using corsair vx 550w

It's easy to say all kinds of stuff, if money or reputation isn't on the line. I'll never suggest VX-series to anyone, no matter what.

some people answer is that i should upgrade into PSU 1000w gold too....

Safe option would be buying good quality 1200W PSU. Since that PSU is powerful enough to handle anything RTX 3090 or RTX 3090 TI can throw at it.

Though, at this point and with the release of RTX 4090, 4090 would be better option, since it is far better and can cost less (MSRP $1599). Though, with RTX 4090, i'd look towards 1600W PSU or better yet, PSU that has ATX 3.0 standard (some are already out).
