That PSU is very low quality, many people have issues with CX series PSUs.
I recommend taking a look at this, http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-1804779/power-supply-unit-tier-list.html
and searching for a PSU on a website of your choice from tier 2b or better that's within your budget. :)

Which i3 do you have? if it's something like an i3 4130, you can step up to a GTX 770 or better before it will start bottlenecking. The 750ti is a great card though, but only if you can't afford any better. 😛

I agree with you entirely but the R7 260X costs £20 less so price is always a factor, especially if this card is to simply tide the OP over until a more substantial upgrade down the line.

Yes, it will perform slightly better than the 260X, and because of it's design and efficiency it's a much better card.
I was just letting him know what a comparable AMD card is under £100.

Yeah i think you are right. For the sake of £10 im better going with the XFX 550w that was recommended and that way i know it will run the 650 ti ok

thanks for your input its apreciated

I bought the XFX Core 450W last week for my HTPC, this is the cheapest in the UK with free shipping http://www.cclonline.com/product/55411/P1-450S-XXB9/Power-Supplies/XFX-Pro-450W-Power-Supply-Unit-Core-Edition-/PSU0202/ £35.00

It will be fine with your system, just don't ask it to run a R9 280x anytime soon!!

Actually a 280x pulls 230w MAX at 100% mining load. His system otherwise will not use more than 130w or so. The 450w XFX could easily run his system with a 280x.

I would be 100% comfortable running his system on that PSU with a gtx760 or r9 370x no problem.

People WAY overestimate the power they need. I ran an overclocked i5 and hd7870 (r9 270x) system on a 450w unit for a whole year. No problems.

Ok thanks.I dont plan on upgrading the card or anything else past a 650ti as its pretty much a pre built stop gap untill i can afford something more powerful for gaming later next year

Yeah, except it costs £5 more on Amazon. CCL are a good company, I buy from them regularly!

Have to use a nasty molex to PCIe adaptor though and always best not to run PSU's at full tilt. Most efficient around 50% so a 600W would be (obviously) much nicer! This is with an R9 280X of course, OP just ignore me and get the XFX 450W!!!

you do not have to use a sketchy molex adapter. I used one of these, which is perfectly same and exactly the same as using two separate 6-pin connectors.

Also, my system with the i5 and 7870 pulled MAX 340w under FULL 100% load both CPU and GPU using synthetic benchmarks. This is 75% load, which is 100% safe. During gaming, of course, the usages were much lower. The highest I ever saw was 290w which is 64% which is right in the sweet spot.

Everyone always thing you need WAY more power than you actually do. Look at my current build in my sig. I bet you wouldn't believe me that under the heaviest gaming load I can create on the GPUs and CPU it only pulls 425w max.

PSU companies purposely don't include the required connectors on PSUs even though they are 100% capable to run cards needing those connectors. This is marketing 101 and even the most friendly household names do it. (Antec, XFX, Seasonic)

Not seen those adaptors before, they seem a better alternative to the moles to PCIe. Incidentally, the original revision of the XFX 450 actually came with 2x PCIe connectors and they got rid of it later on so I don't doubt what you're saying.

Yeah, the whole PSU market is a racket.

There are some very good quality 650w units with 4 PCIe connectors for using 2 GPUs. Rosewill and Seasonic make a few. Proving they are comfortable with you running two high end GPUs on only 650w. Which again is generally perfectly safe.

There are many mods here using PSUs that people would claim are too small for their system, but in actuality are perfectly safe.
