Hi!

After reading a lot of posts about the same issue but without any solutions, I'm resorting to my own post.

The problem:

My PSU will shut down immediately after shorting the POWER_SW. The PSU makes a clicking sound after lighting up and starting the fans for almost one second. This issue is present once the CPU is in the socket of the MB. Also, The EZ debug LED turns red for a short while, too. After a few seconds it'll attempt a new boot and then it'll shutdown and click just as before. It's a loop.

The PSU won't shut down once I've removed the CPU and cooler. It runs fine without the CPU in the socket.

The CPU is supported by the MB according to the MSI site. However, I've updated the MB to version 7D91vH2 just to be sure.

Components:
  • Thermaltake Toughpower modulair GF1 ARGB 850W
  • Intel® Core i7-13700K, 3,4 GHz CPU
  • MSI MAG Z790 Tomahawk WIFI MB
  • Noctua NH-D15 chromax.black CPU cooler

At this moment, I'm very lost and don't know how to continue. Any help is appreciated a lot.

Cheers,
Don

Remove 8pin to 8pin cable and try to start without it.
(using only 8pin to 4pin+4pin cable)

I removed the 8 to 8 pin cable from the PSU to the CPU_PWR2 so only the 8 to 4+4 pin cable is connected from the PSU to CPU_PWR1 but, the issue still persists unfortunately.

I do appreciate all the help so far, thank you all 🙏🏻

Update: I've returned the MB and installed a different one. It POSTed the first very first time with the new MB. So, apparently it wasn't A PSU or CPU issue, but an MB issue ...

However, when I put both CPU_PWR cables in the MB it gives 5 beeps. This is why I only have 1 cable from the PSU tot the CPU_PWR on the MB. Would one 8pin CPU_PWR combined with the 24 pin ATX_PWR sufficient for the 13700k CPU?

According to reviews under full load 13700K can draw around 280 W. That would require both cables.

I'll check if the CPU error with 5 beeps still appears with 2 CPU_PWR cables in, or if it was an incident. Do I need to clear CMOS after adding the second cable or will it work right away?
