hello guys, your brother from Egypt here hoping for your help,

short story long ..

i have got a new zalman psu 500w which is loud as hell .. all kinds of cracklings, whistles, buzzings, that you can imagine are inside there . Whether on idle you hear these dog whistle . dare to open 3d stuff and you will regret it. every kind of work have its own sound - the psu is making sure u won't get bored.

so i got my other dead psu fixed asap (thermaltake 450w) which served me 4 years no problems and its up and running again - no more headache . but as it may die on me again i want to fix the zalman psu

i can't RMA it now as i got rid of the box to expel evil . angry pharaohs spirits like to live in empty boxes as we all know ..

my important point is
i heard about hot glue fix for that kind of problems . but i don't know where exactly to put the glue ?
on top of coils or on base and what amounts ? i don't want to cause overheating .

i'am not using it for 2 days now - can it still have electricity on it ? i don't want to die by an electric shock . i may turn into angry spirit my self, with no empty boxes around to live in which is not cool..

i have to mention that i have 660gtx and i5 2400 8gb of ram - zalman psu have no other problems but the whining - no shutdowns under load .. nothing

any help will be appreciated

i have no experience with zalman psu's, i have always gone with corsair and seasonic. this might not be the answer your looking for but *personally* if i had a psu that was whizzing and popping, and i couldn't send it in. i would throw it out. sucks your out the money but it sounds like a fire hazard. never mind that it could very well be harming your components

thanks for your answer
many corsair and seasonic psu's are having nasty coil whine problems as well . even those on tier 1 or plus gold - i've searched so hard for a psu that is 100% trusted coil whine free and there isn't .. its only luck .. even somthing like Seasonic M12II 850W EVO Edition 650-Watt 80 PLUS Bronze Full Modular PSU i was going to buy . many reviewers said it hardly make it to the second year and its dead . some died on 4 months . many said it runs quiet , some said it was loud .all i want is a last shot maybe hot glue will make zalman psu run quiet .if not - i will lose nothing .. i only want to know how i apply it cause there is no one explaining how exactly to put it in.

idk man ive built 7 pc for me and my friends, always used corsair. none of them have any whine at all. thats all i can go on from personal experience. they all have great warranties as well. as far as hot gluing a PSU just dont do it. im not sure what their talking about but it just sounds like a bad idea

In the component that causes coil whine, but it may not be a coil. If it's another component, then you need to replace it. You may get the issue because the PSU works hard enough; how much power does your system draw when you hear the noise?

Having the box isn't an RMA requirement; having all the parts is.

i hear the noise even on idle its very annoying low frequency whistle . its gone when i do prime 95 pcu test . and it buzzez loudly when i open any game . and iam sure its the psu cause as i mentioned .. i'am working now with another 4 years 450w thermaltake psu and everything is quiet again .
