[SOLVED] PSU connector missing/damaged?

Hi, I have one of them Russian roulette PSUs... But for the moment I'm not worried about it. Well, maybe I am. My motherboard stopped working, andi went through the standard clear cmos, change ram, use a different PSU etc, but alas, the old thing still won't go. I'm about to try the original PSU that was I'm when the problem started on a new PC, when I noticed one of the ATX connectors on the 20 pin part didn't have a copper (or whatever it is) thingy. The link shows what I mean. Is there supposed to be a connector there? Is that what caused my motherboard to say it's final adios? Or is this still a mystery murder to solve another day?

No...the missing pin is normal, these days. That was for the -5VDC connection, which isn't used on contemporary motherboards.

Ok thanks. I noticed another PSU I have also has that pin missing, while my 2001 era PSU has that pin. What is that pin even for?

It was for -5Volt supply for the older motherboards.

Again, it is no longer used on current motherboards.

Cheers. The PSU still works now that I have tested it. I shall have to move onto the MoBo forum in the ever-continuing search for answers as to why my PC won't start.
