Is there any chance that you could damage or shorten the lifespan of a psu in any way by plugging in the 24 atx and 8 cpu pins into a motherboard that has / had been damaged via static .

For context I was building my first pc and my pc case arrived mid school day where I had no lessons so I rushed home too excited to build it . I was wearing wool and handling the mobo without grounding or care as I had to get back to school .Today I tested to see if everything was fine so I plugged in my new psu that came today and things where alright but I was told by the specialists from where I got my equipment that static dmg isn’t always instant kill it can show problems months later so I got new mobo , cpu and ram by exchanging .

It does seem like I’m very paranoid and stressing but it’s my first pc can’t help it so I’m just wonder , can any static dmg from my mobo/ component affect my psu (because I assembled and put things together the day before my cpu arrived .

Thanks

It would have a lot to do with where it was touched and discharged to. In a very basic sense, if it were just in your hands and never made a path to ground the board is probably fine.
Well I touched underneath the board a few times but does that mean if it was to have had some static damage it would affect the psu?

Thanks

I am not of a mind to think that if you were holding a motherboard in the open, not being mounted into a case on a grounded surface, that simply touching it while wearing wool is going to cause issue.
First off I want to thank you for fast replies and I’m sorry if I seem stubborn or stupid in any way .

I did mount it in the case for a bit after touching it with wool but I’ve already replaced it so I was just wondering then in a theoretical sense , if a mobo with some static msg was connected to a psu would it damage the psu

Sorry for the repetition because it’s the only slight concern I have as I’ve replaced most other parts for safety

Thanks

Even at mounting the motherboard into the case, was the case laying on a table that has a solid grounding action to the floor? IE have you ever sat down at this table and gotten shocked (static)?

If it is of significant concern to you there are wrist straps you can buy to ground yourself. This is assuming you have the more modern 3 pole AC outlets.

At first the case was on a table , which is on a like yoga mat material carpet but no I haven’t been shocked

Whilst handling the mobo I was also sitting on my bed for a bit with the mobo on my lap wearing a suit trousers

Sorry but my specific question isn’t about any damage to the mobo as I have already swapped it . I would like to know if there was any damage would it have affected the psu connected to it ?

Thanks

Build your pc first.
Start worrying only after you have built it and it is not working.
Not before that.

Because currently you don't even know, if there is an issue at all.
Probably isn't.

Typically, when you have a static discharge, you know it. Sounds like in this scenario, you are fine (as others have indicated).

Other than worrying about an unlikely concern, are you experiencing any other issues?
Not fully but when asking around ive also been told multiple times a static discharge can be low enough to not feel but high enough to damage something

The main issue i have is im on a tight budget and my refund date is closer so if there is an issue either i have lost a chunk of my budget or i face issues with refunding damaged items
