psu: evga 500B or corsair cx 500?

for a gaming computer, which psu is better: evga 500B or corsair cx 500?

anything more expensive is out of question. everyone and every article claim a low quality psu is dangerous, but I never read anything to confirm this.

being very paranoid, i feel like the importance of the psu quality is examined too much, and its just for brands to make more money....
if its really important that I invest more, please show me a review or something where a person experienced issues due to a low quality psu. (even 1 good example will suffice)
