PSU hack conversion of a 52vdc (out) down to 12vdc (out) on a shoestring.

Is it possible to convert a HP HSTNS-2P01 Blade PSU to output 12v ?
Wishing to power a LiPo charger needing 12 - 18v and each of the outputs are rated at 51.4 vdc
Thinking of throwing a step-down transformer plus adding a warning sign saying "Mitts Off" (approx 8kw :lol: )

Yes, it's possible. Just be careful of the amperage. Touch the wrong spot and you might get a SHOCKING experience! Put a large enough capacitor on that and you should be able to weld with it! LOL!.

Not to mention that you get a free space heater out of it! WOO HOO!

You can't use a step down transformer as transformers only work on AC and they have a DC output.

haven't been able to find a manual and guessing this is Tapu to tinker under the hood but would be good to find somting to read, and yes Makkem, that slipped my mind (blond moment) seem I can't think and type at the same time. lol

you need a DC/DC converter. most have a range input, like 18-75Vdc in. some have an adjustable voltage out, 12Vdc +/-5Vdc.

depending on wattage they can range from a few dollars to a few hundred.
