Hello, community! I have a small problem that I need help with. You see, I have a no name brand 450 watt power supply in my PC. I don't rightly know whether my components are gonna wear the psu down. Here's my specs:

Motherboard:
Gigabyte G41M-Combo

Processor:
Intel Pentium Dual-Core E5400 2.7 GHz

Graphics Card:
Gigabyte Nvidia Geforce GT 740 2GB GDDR5

RAM:
Kingston DDR2 4GB 600 MHz (x2 2GB)

Fans:
2x 120mm standard fans

HDD(s):
WD Blue 500GB (7200RPM) X1
WD Green 500GB (Automatic) x1

Others:
2x DVD writers
1x ASUS PCI WLAN card

PSU:
450 watts

It's a pretty sweet mid level gaming computer that I've built outta salvaged parts and I hate to watch it wither away just because the psu couldn't pump enough power into the systems 🙁
The eXtreme power supply calculator gave me a minimum of 216 watts power usage and it can climb to 316 watts on load but I'm much more comfortable if actual people gave me a run down on my power usage. Many thanks to anyone willing to reply!

There's no way it will use 316, that's why my system with a 3570K and 7950/280 uses. I'm not sure what the 740 uses, but it's less then 75W. And I don't remember what those old C2D drew. But I'd believe that first ~210W number. The question becomes, how good/bad is that PSU. You are probably ok. I tend to believe the junker PSUs for about half of their "rated" output, so 225W in this case. I wouldn't add to much more stuff though.

No worries, I didn't get that psu out of a garage sale. The power output is a solid 420-465 volts, I believe. Not sure how much power the rails get though. Not a whole lot of people know about Gigabyte's GT 740 since it is pretty rare in my country in SE Asia, but on the box of the GPU it said it required a 400 watt psu at minimum. If you plan to search for it, make sure to add 'Triangle Cooling' to the search bar, there's 70% chance the card will show up.

I'm not doing any more research on this. Guessing from the model number it doesn't get any extra power from the PSU, so it has to stay under 75W. it's probably some form of rebranded GT640.

You know this how? Most low level PSUs only list "peak" output, so I doubt it can do anything over 450W, and even that number can probably only be done for a ms or two. It's probably most likely "designed" to be a 400W. And depending on how bad it is it might not even be able to handle that. Here is a poor PSU doing about 60% of its rated output. No way these things can do full output, let alone anything over that.

Nah, the GPU does take extra power from the PSU. One thing's for sure though, it is not a rebranded GT 640 considering the large difference in build and performance. Heck, even the box itself said the graphics engine was GT 740!

On the other hand, I guess I should just stick with my PSU until it gives out.

The box might have said 9800GT, but it was still just a 8800GT. Or it might have said 6770, but it was still a 5770. Both companies have took a card, and just put a new name on it.

If it needs a power plug it could draw more then 75W. I doubt it draws more then that, and I stay by my original posting.

Looks like we'll never know :/
I now declare this thread closed. Thanks for the assist 4745454b!
