Problems relating to my new build with the psu

Hi,
I have just finished a new build. Everything working great so I buy a 290x to finish the job. I install the card and firstly the sound is crappy. I do a cinebench test it comes up at 106fps I believe. To sort the sounds I had to remove the drivers and start again. So now the sound works however my psu is making an odd clicking noise when ever i use the card, even for as little as a video. I took another cinebench and it was down at 12fps then after a restart 60.

The click is directly reltated to load because as soon as I stop the media or game the noise stops.
I have taken the machine apart and powered it up to hear the noise. It's definitely the psu and not the fan.

Google says that a 650w psu with the 290x should be fine. Can anyone spread some light. I don't want to buy a new psu just to find the same issue.

I went to the gigabyte website and left very confused. Do you know where I might find it? I found a section where they mention drivers and bios. Or is there an online tutorial I can follow?

My mobo is z97 m d3s I think

No Luck, After the fresh instal of the bios i uninstalled the graphics drivers for a fresh install. When all done i get my highest bench mark. Im please... think its over.

No, no... after a single restart it all goes to pot again. check out this picture to see the bench mark change.

To Prove this is have uninstalled the drivers and re-installed several times. I also bench marked with afterburner. Same results. It is super fast after initla driver install then after a restart it gets much slower. (i havent managed to test sound as i have no HDMI here where i am now)

One further bit of info that might be worth mentioning. When i do the re-start it takes much longer than a regular re-start. What might be going on in that time?

I feel this thread now needs to be about mother boards and not the psu, ha!

I may have finally fixed it!!!

I was searching for anything power management related and cam across this... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pMEVAVeOd5M

as the video shows I went into after burner and turned off ULPS and forced contestant voltage. So far it has solved the issues!!!

The previous guy had two of these so i think it kept idling its self. I will hit "solved" after a few days to check that it has worked.... So relieved.

I have had one blip in the works, other than that the bench marks seem pretty even. The sound is still an issue... much better but still distorts.

Ha, well I was wrong anyway.

Let's start again. We have moved forward a tiny bit. It is now not every reboot that is bad.

The constant voltage makes no difference I still had a slow session. I have now deduced from the amount of reboots I have done that it has something to do with the start up. If it boots quickly I have a good benchmark, sometimes it will take up to 30 seconds to get to the gigabyte logo, this is when I have a bad benchmark.

Does this shed any light?

Long time, sorry for my delay. I have tried many solutions and had bios updates from both Gigabyte and Sapphire. I have again moved the GPU into another machine and it works perfectly. I Therefore deduce that it is the motherboard. I have applied for RMA but i am unable to test the motherboard with any other GPU so i am hoping they dont return it "working".

Is there anything that i can be missing on this? Should i arrange to have an exchange for a different motherboard in return?

I would like to do that but i have been told that i am no aloud to return it without a reason. They will exchange it but unlikely for a different model. Which is annoying.

If the motherboard is not at fault what do you think the cause could be ?

Cheers
