Solution
Since it seemed intermittent before, I think it's the motherboard. Usually if a CPU just shuts down, like black screen, won't come back on, it's done.
First thing to try is resetting the bios.

Next I would try unplugging and reseating all the cables if you haven't tried that yet. At that time also unplug everything that isn't essential, so you only want your OS drive, 1 stick of memory, GPU, CPU.

If that still doesn't work, I would next try removing the motherboard, laying it on a non-conductive surface, plugging in the bare minimum components again and try to boot the computer to rule out shorts from the case.

Any chance you can borrow a psu from someone to test against yours with your motherboard?

If not, I think it would be time to contact the manufacturer support if it is in warranty still and to check if they have any ideas of how to proceed.

If you have access to a multimeter, there are more tests you can run on your psu to check if it is actually functioning or if the fan can just power on.

I have borrowed a psu from one of my friends his psu didnt work on my motherboard so i've taken my psu to his house and surprisingly it worked on his computer. The psu is fine but now it got me curious now comes the question which is it then the mobo or the cpu?

hey man can i ask you one more question?
i have bought a msi 970 gaming motherboard and is was wondering if i cound put one more ram stick of 4 gb it has four dim slot but unfortunately one of the dim is being blocked buy my cpu heatsink and i have 8gb. 4gb each

Yeah you can run 3 sticks of the same type of memory in there pretty easily. Two of the sticks will run in dual channel mode and the third will run in single channel mode. The mixed setup for memory is automatic and won't really affect system performance/gaming at all.

Mixed memory on the motherboard can sometimes cause instability, so the best way is to match for the exact same memory as the other sticks.

No problem, a few questions:

what GPU do you have and how is it connected? If it requires the PCIe 6 or 8 pin connectors, can you describe how it is connected? Are the PCIe plugs located on the same cable coming from the PSU or are they separate cables, 1 for each plug etc.

What CPU are you using?

Also, the EPS power plug (8-pin near the CPU), is that an 8-pin or 4-pin connector?

sorry for the delay i wasnt sure if you would reply i left the site XD i have now got a gtx 970 and yes it requires 1 six pin and 8 pin to power up the gpu and for the cpu its an 8 pin yes they are all connected to the psu

there must be some time difference you and i XD so i'll leave a question. is the corsair hx 650 watt psu be enough for my system or should i get a 750? since the one i have right now is also a 650 watt psu from corsair which is the VS650
