I just recently put my gaming computer together only to find the psu didn't turn on when plugged to the motherboard so I assumed it was a dead motherboard. I bought a new one and tried again only to find it still doesn't work, the psu passes the paper clip test but doesn't work plugged into the motherboard. What are the odds it was 2 dead motherboards or just the psu?

Motherboard :MSI pro series intel B250 LGA motherboard

Psu: EVGA 500w atx psu

I made sure all the parts were compatible before buying them so that shouldn't be the problem.

Thanks in advance

Hard to say about the odds, lets just say both are possible. In situations like this having PSU that is know to work for a test is invaluable. Paperclip test is only sound method of evaluating PSU when it fails - then you know PSU is dead. If PSU passes paperclip test, you simply still know nothing.
