I have a 650W PSU and on idle i.e. on normal usage does the psu always consume 650W or it means varying power consumption according to the requirement of the machine?
Power consumption will be internal power consumption (energy your idle system uses) divided by the PSU efficiency at that internal consumption. If you have an 80% efficient power supply and a 100W internal consumption, the power supply will draw 125W from the wall, about 1A
So it will not draw 650W constantly until necessary
Most likely it won't even draw half of that unless you have a high end GPU
I have r9 280x but I am asking at usage such as web browsing and document reading the gpu will not draw full power
How many times do I have to say it, energy consumption depends on the CURRENT DRAW, not maximum!
