Hey there,

I'm getting ready to order my parts for my first build and I'm looking for some informed opinions on how big of a PSU I should get. I'll be going with an i7-4790K on an ASUS Maximus VI Hero motherboard. As mentioned in the title I'll be opting for the GTX 970 for GPU; probably either the ASUS Strix or an MSI. That said I am interested in overclocking things slightly and would also love to not have to buy a new PSU if I decide to SLI in the future.

That being said; does anyone have any good recommendations? Thanks for your time!

Solution
get the Asus STRIX card. i personally have a pair of MSI GTX 970 cards, and while they work great so far, i was really angry to find out that MSI cut a corner by using a cheap voltage controller. the voltage controller on this card is only built to use 4 phases yet the card has 8 phases (6 for GPU + 2 for mem). that means they are running phases in parallel. while it's not the end of the world, this is just a very silly thing to do and the card offers almost no real benefit over the reference 4+1 phase design.

the Asus card has a controller that can handle 8 phases and it actually uses 8 phases. that's the PROPER way to build a high end graphic card
