Probably occurs more than most realize. Will never happen, but the only true trustworthy way to test these units
is to buy one off the retail shelf.

Wow that's unreal.

If they didn't score units, what would be the point of reviewing them? There'd be no method of weighing one unit against another. I do think though that oklahomawolf has strayed far from sticking to the things that actually matter when scoring and has been placing emphasis on things that are irrelevant to anybody but him.

For example, I don't like seeing Berg connectors on main cables either, but I don't think an otherwise great unit should be a loss of a half point per cable, nor do I think a unit without them that is otherwise not that great should be rated higher than the other unit simply because it does not have them.

Taking points off for being semi-modular, stupid. Every unit needs the cables that aren't modular anyhow, so that's pointless. Anybody who intends to do custom sleeving already knows they need modular cables anyhow, so taking points off for that is just dumb and makes some very good units look like they might have problems.

And then NOT taking off points anymore for having second tier caps, pffft, c'mon man. Next to voltage regulation and ripple, that ought to be one of the biggest priorities, whether you think it's going to affect the performance or not. If everybody starts buying units with lower quality caps and disregarding the ones using high quality versions, we're going to end up seeing nothing but second rate components everywhere since manufacturers will assume they can get away with it. Plus, that allows a unit that DOES use second tier caps to score as high as a unit that doesn't.

^Agreed!^

Yeah this makes me extremely mad. This is why PSU reviewers should not ask the companies to send a unit. They should only buy retail. They should all be able to bite the $50.

The RM use lower tier capacitors. Capxon, Ltec, to name some. Now, Jonnyguru himself claims that this was changed when CWT took over manufacturing instead of Chiccony, but I am not sure, as I have not seen a review of the normal RM without using lower end caps. Of course, on Jonnyguru, they all play the game of, "Oh, capacitors don't matter" when Corsair does something. I think they have some Corsair bias on there personally. Darkbreeze is totally right, they score floppy connectors but don't score against capacitors now really. Heck, they're probably reading me saying this right now, but they despise me anyway on jonnyguru, so I'm already on their bad side.

The RMx, though, I have yet to see a bad review of one. The RM550x is better than the 550 G2.

The RMx is the same platform as the RMi but without Corsair Link. It's excellent.

I like making lists, so I've decided to make a PSU list. It is not a tier list, though, it is a PSU Review Reference List. Basically, a list of a gazillion units and exact handy links to professional reviews on those units. I know people can do deep Googling, but this way it'll be quicker, and I have time on my hands.

Heh, beat me to it.

Seriously, how did you not know that existed?
