Is it possible to check the W(is it 500 or 800) of the power supply without opening the PC?

Unless it's a prebuilt with a detailed product spec page (Dell, HP etc), probably not.

You might be able to guesstimate, based on the hardware it's running, but that's not going to serve much purpose - especially when you could just pop the panel off & look.

Then you're going to have to open the system up at some stage anyway, so you're not averse to doing so?

The commonly used Speccy program does not show PSU details.

If you have a pre-built, the power supply is likely average at best. I'd be wary of upgrading GPU with the typical pre-built power supply, but we have NO idea what GPU upgrade you have in mind.
