Sold my rx 560 and purchased an r9 290 4gb

This thing is old, like old-old

How do I take care of it so that it doesnt die? like doesnt fail to boot etc... should i repaste it?invest in more fans?

Solution
Do not preemtively repaste.
You are more likely to damage it in the process.
Repaste only if you think it is running hotter than it should.

The most likely cause of damaging a graphics card is a cheap quality power supply.
The next most likely cause is excessive heat.

To assess those items, you need to supply more details about your case, fan arrangement, cpu, cooler, motherboard...

All things die eventually;), what we can do is extend it's lifetime.

You mentioned it's old so I'm guessing you bought it 2nd hand, I would suggest repasting it with a good thermal paste ( Kryonaut Thermal Grizzly is the best imo ).
Adding more fans on your system is also a good idea as long as it is oriented properly, and also don't cheap out on PSU.
